Kuwaiti military personnel and dignitaries celebrate the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Qaruh Island, Kuwait, Jan. 25, 2011. Qaruh was liberated by U.S. and Kuwaiti forces on Jan. 21, 1991, and was the first territory to be restored to Kuwaiti sovereignty from Iraqi occupation during the Gulf War. Kuwait is scheduled to host more celebrations commemorating the Gulf War during the last week of February, with participation from many of the 34 nations in the coalition that liberated Kuwait in 1991.
